The Master's Thesis course constitutes the concluding task in the Programme in Transport and Logistics. This is a generic module that is used for a variety of programmes, the programme director (or delegated person) will advise students on the appropriate master thesis to ensure that they relate to the relevant programme. Within the framework of the Master's Thesis course, students will explore different ways of finding information and defining the scope of a research; doing research, as well as different ways of communicating the results and present this in a written report called a Master's thesis.
The thesis should be completed and defended individually by each student. Preparing the thesis students should follow TSI guidelines and recommendations published in e.tsi.lv section: Information for Final Year Students. The guidelines describe formal requirements and the procedures, which students should follow during the preparation of the thesis. The thesis is prepared under the supervision of the faculty academic staff, with the possibility to involve the consultant. The role of the supervisor is to provide individual consultation and guide thesis preparation workflow. During the master thesis preparation term, several seminars will be provided to the students, which include: a seminar about thesis formatting issues and requirements, use of library services, ethical aspects and plagiarism issues.
Students will conduct research studies in the area of transport or logistics under the supervision of their Master’s Thesis supervisor. Research areas include transport or logistics system or processes analysis: planning, inventory control, maintenance, reliability, scheduling specifically for and limited to logistics and supply chain systems, distribution center and warehouse system analysis; transportation systems design or analysis etc.
Research output must lead to presentation and publication in conference proceedings, or national/international refereed journal.
